After dropping the opening game, Prannoy raised his intensity, taking control in the second and holding his nerve in a tense decider. Trailing 16-18, he stormed back with five straight points to seal a memorable comeback win. He will next face Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew in the Round of 16.
In mixed doubles, Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto continued India’s momentum, edging past Malaysia’s Wong Tien Ci and Lim Chiew Sien 21-14, 20-22, 21-13 in a hard-fought 58-minute battle to advance further in the draw.
However, it was a mixed day for India elsewhere. Malvika Bansod fought valiantly but went down 21-11, 19-21, 12-21 to Lin Hsiang Ti in women’s singles, while the Panda sisters bowed out in women’s doubles.
